Once we hit play on “Burn The Ships,” the newest single from Blackout Balter, we knew we had to premiere the enticing track. “Burn The Ships” is the third single off their upcoming, full-length debut album entitled Animal – produced by Grammy-winner Jeremy Ferguson (Cage the Elephant engineer and producer), and assisted by Grammy-winner Emily Lazar (David Bowie, Cold Play), which is due out later this year.

“Burn The Ships” is a guitar driven vessel that has incredible vocals/harmonies and a bridge-hook that absolutely slays, which in turn, gets the melody stuck in your head long after the song ends. We really dig how the song unfolds and with multiple singers, offers an unusual and equal helping of female and male voices adding to the allure of the song and the band itself. Based on what we’ve heard thus far from Animal, we cannot wait for the album’s release later this year and will keep you informed along the way.
“For some reason, I’ve always heard a lot of Bowie in this song,” says Blackout Balter frontman, Phil Cohen. “When I was writing Burn The Ships, the chorus melody structure felt epic to me; so I really needed lyrics that fit the feel of the song. I remembered learning about the story of Cortés, burning down his own fleet of ships, off the coast of Veracruz, to remove any possibility of retreat; and I always loved this image. It was the ultimate sign of commitment, and it was the perfect backdrop for the song.”
