CMJ: COLD WAR KIDS, ELLIOT MOSS & VERITE

My personal CMJ Music Marathon started on Wed. Oct. 22nd. I stopped at Spike Hill in Brooklyn to check out MIRK. The Albany New York band filled the room with their funky R&B rhythms. It was a nice start to my first CMJ Marathon experience. I then took a walk over to Brooklyn Bowl to check out Vérité. The introverted young Brooklyn singer was one of my favorite shows of the week. Her electronic sound is overlaid with her smooth vocals. She’ll be back in Brooklyn in November. Check her out if you get the chance.

Then I walked a few block over to Rough Trade. There, Elliot Moss took the stage. It was a rather cramped stage, full of an absurd amount cables. The range of music was vast, from psychedelic tracks to jam songs to songs that sounded like a mix of The Police and Steely Dan. They primed he crowd for the headliners of the night, Cold War Kids. The veteran indie-rockers ripped through songs from all five studio albums including the new “All This Could Be Yours” to classics “We Used To Vacation”, “Hospital Beds” and “Hang Me Out To Dry”. It was a stellar ending to this CMJ Marathon evening.
