PANCAKE PICKS: BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK FOR 8-17-15

Summer is flying by and before you know it, all the outside venues will be shuttered for the season and we will be bitching about the cold. Make the most out of the rest of the summer by checking out our Pancake Picks below for the best shows of the week.

Monday

Jane Lynch @ Joe’s Pub – A woman of many talents, Jane Lynch is no stranger to musical performing-arts from Glee, to the satire comedy A Mighty Wind, to her portrayal of Miss Hannigan in Broadway’s Annie. She now has a new musical comedy out, in which she’ll be doing a four-night run at Joe’s pub, along with some possibly famous friends.

The Letter Yellow @ The Living Room – Head over to one of Brooklyn’s newer music venues for The Letter Yellow’s Monday night residency at the Williamsburg venue. The Letter Yellow bring a sound from the late 60s with a stripped down version of a loose Kinks or The Doors style of indie psychedelic rock.

Tuesday

Counting Crows @ JBL Live Pier 97 – One of the few great alternative rock bands from the 90s still touring, Counting Crows still put on a great show for those of use who carry a mindset that 1998 was only five years ago. They killed it at SummerStage last year and didn’t even play most of the hits.

I Love Monsters @ Mercury Lounge – This NYC indie-rock band has hooks for days and will have Mercury Lounge grooving to their tremendous harmonies and killer live show.

Wednesday

Morning Teleportation @ Brooklyn Bowl – Psychedelic semi-jam band Morning Teleportation, hit the road for a string of dates opening for Modest Mouse. Known as well for their up-tempo style of rock, they’re the perfect band to see on a summer Wednesday with a drink and a smoke.

Thursday

Blackalicious @ Brooklyn Bowl – Sometimes you just need some old-school, low-fi hip-hop to break things up a bit during the week. The veterans will have Brooklyn Bowl bumping.

Pile @ Baby’s All Right – This Boston trio is a workhorse of a band, playing tons of shows and releasing music frequently is how they do it. Head over to Baby’s for a raucous show that you’ll be telling your friends about the next morning.

Friday

Krill @ Palisades – Nothing flashy about this band or their music, just solid guitar-base alternative garage rock. Their ability to get loud without compromising the quality of their sound is a quality not every rock band like them can attest to.

Saturday

P&W Presents Emily Wells @ Rough Trade – Another party thrown by the gang here at P&W features Emily Wells headlining and of course FREE George Dickel Whiskey for the first hour and discounted Sixpoint brews.

Billboard Hot 100 Festival @ Jones Beach Nikon Theater – Billboard’s inaugural music festival kicks off with pop stars like The Weeknd, Betty Who, Cold War Kids, Halsey, and more on day one.

Sunday

Billboard Hot 100 Festival @ Jones Beach Nikon Theater – Day two of the pop festival features performances by Ryn Weaver, X Ambassadors, Holy Ghost!, Nicki Minaj, Skillex, and more!
