THE WOMBATS HAVE A TON OF ENERGY UPSTATE CONCERT HALL

Having just arrived back to Upstate New York post Bonnaroo, I really should have taken the night off, but music never takes a night off. It was comforting to be back in a venue I know with other photographers I know and have the photo pit be fairly small. What wasn’t small though were the sounds coming from the stage.

Coast Modern got the night started off with a fun and energetic set of pop rock. Their laid back west coast vibes oozed through the short set they played. The young crowd hung on every word and note the band played, though they didn’t seem to know much of it. Coast Modern closed with their hit “Hollow Life” and if the band can continue to make songs like that, they should have no trouble growing their fan base as they did on this night.

The Wombats bounced, jumped, and danced all over the stage from the opening lines of “Give Me a Try” through the last notes of “Let’s Dance to Joy Division.” The three piece band know how to have a good time on stage and the feeling was infectious to the rest of the room. There is nothing better than being at a show and watching the energy bounce from an artist to the crowd and then back to the artist. The room gets smaller and everyone is locked in and gets lost in the music. The Wombats have been on my list of bands to see for years and while I’m sad it took this long to finally see them, I know it won’t be long before I make sure to do it all over again.
